John Wayne Airport Showcase
A selection of 15 works will be on display at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, from December 15, 2008 to January 22, 2009. This show will be a mix of works for sale and works from Michael Ward's private collection. About half of the works depict scenes of Orange County. Locations range from Michael Ward's hometown of Costa Mesa to Newport Beach and Santa Ana. His works do not depict the usual tourist sites, but rather the everyday world of streets and houses, where we spend most of our time. The others depict scenes of Southern California and elsewhere that he has observed in his travels.

The works are on view in the non-secure areas of the Airport: near the upper level departure security checkpoint entries and the lower level baggage claim area. Short-term parking is usually available in Parking Structure A1, at a cost of $1 per hour. For more information about airport parking, click here.

For information about availability of the works, please contact the artist by email at tmichaelward@att.net.

Michael Ward began his artistic career doing pen and ink renderings of historical architecture. From 1984 to 1990 he operated a mail order business selling these drawings on calendars, prints, and related items. He began painting in 1980, first in gouache, then in acrylics. Artists whose work he admires and draw inspiration from include Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, Richard Estes and Vermeer. He is most interested in depicting what Alan Watts called the mystery of the ordinary; the workaday world we live in without seeing until we are forced to focus upon it, as in a painting. As a painter, he is self-taught.

More examples of his work are on display at Tirage Art Gallery in Pasadena, CA. They may be previewed on-line at www.tirageart.com.
